What is NSC?
National Savings Certificate (NSC) is a fixed-income savings instrument offered by the Government of India through post offices. Interest is compounded annually but paid only at maturity after 5 years. NSC qualifies for Section 80C deduction.

Standard compound-interest formula with annual compounding over 5 years:
Maturity = P × (1 + r)^5 P = amount invested r = annual interest rate
