What is GST?
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is India's unified indirect tax. For intra-state sales the rate is split equally between CGST (Central) and SGST (State). For inter-state sales the full rate is charged as IGST instead.
Example of Adding GST: If you are selling a laptop with a base price of ₹50,000 and the applicable GST rate is 18%, the GST amount will be 18% of 50,000 = ₹9,000. The total payable amount becomes ₹59,000. If sold within the same state, this is split into ₹4,500 CGST and ₹4,500 SGST.
Formula
Add GST: GST = Base × rate / 100
Total = Base + GST
Remove GST: Base = Total / (1 + rate/100)
GST = Total − Base
CGST = SGST = GST / 2 (intra-state)How to use this calculator
Pick "Add GST" to compute the total payable on a pre-tax amount, or "Remove GST" to extract the base amount from a tax-inclusive price. Choose the GST rate that matches the product or service category.
When to use Remove GST: In India, the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) printed on packaged goods is always inclusive of GST. If a smartphone has an MRP of ₹15,000 and attracts 12% GST, you can use the "Remove GST" option to find out that the actual base price of the phone is ₹13,392.86 and the GST component is ₹1,607.14.
